Defining and Describing a Character

Alexie, Sherman, and Ellen Forney. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-time Indian. New York: Little, Brown, 2007. Print

Arnold Spirit (Junior) is the character i will describe.
He has these words that describe him:

1.Perseverance: steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.
Synonyms are Persistence and Determination.
Antonyms are Quitting and Laziness.
2. Creative: resulting from originality of thought, expression etc.; imaginative.
Synonyms are Expression and Imagination.
Antonyms are Dull and Distasteful
3. Knowledge: acquaintance with facts, truths, or principles, as from study or investigation; general erudition.
Synonyms are Comprehension and Understanding.
Antonyms are Stupidity and Ignorance.

I know that Arnold has these qualities because he persisted to follow his dream in the hope for a future even though people didn't like him leaving as showed in this quote "You'll be the first one to ever leave the rez this way," Mom said. "The Indians around her are going to be angry with you."
Arnold shows his imagination by drawing cartoons of him and sometimes of his family and friend rowdy as showed in this quote "I draw cartoons  of my mother and father; my sister and grandmother; my best friend, Rowdy; and everybody else on the rez.
When Arnold is in he class he is known as a very understanding boy with his knowledge as in this quote "I remember when people used to think i was smart".

Identify and Sort

The book i choose to right on is The absolutely true diary of a part time indian. The five main elements in my book were Conflict, Setting, Conclusion, Character and Suspense.
1.Conflict
2.Suspense
3.Character
4.Conclusion
5.Setting
To me for my book conflict is the most important element in this story. During the story Junior and Rowdy are friends for the wholoe first half of the book but then once Junior decides to change schools so he can become more succesful his reservation camp rebels against him beating him up and making fun of him for leaving the reserve. Rowdy himself gets angry at Junior and Junior trys to be nice and ask if he wants to go also but Rowdy takes it the wrong way and punches Junior so they break up as friends.
"You'll be the first one to ever leave the rez this way," Mom said. "The indians around here are going to be angry with you." (Sherman Alexie, Pg 47)
The significance to this quotation from the book is that he knows the indians will be upset with him but he still goes through with his dream.
